Our School

Consolidation of the West Chester Area School District was finalized in July 1966 as the final touches were placed on West Goshen Township’s newest school – Glen Acres Elementary. Although construction was approved and overseen by the West Goshen School Board, the newly formed West Chester Area School Board presided at the dedication on January 15, 1967. Dr. Elwood Spellman was president of the area school board. The president of West Goshen School Board during construction was Conrad Muhly, III, who succeeded Spellman as president of the area board.

Glen Acres originally opened with twenty classrooms at a cost of $825,000. The first principal was M. Wayne Neal. Two portable classrooms were added to the east side of the school in the early 1990s.

The school received a generous addition in 1996-97 which houses a new gymnasium, an art room, two music instruction rooms, two small group instruction rooms, a large group instruction room, and two additional classrooms; all located on the East side of the original building. The former gymnasium was renovated into a new library, while the old library was converted into a technology center. The remainder of the original school building received a complete facelift. The portable classrooms were incorporated into the structure of the school as part of these renovations.

Glen Acres is one of eleven elementary schools in the West Chester Area School District. The school is located in scenic Chester County, 32 miles west of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The school has a population of approximately 500 students and 40 staff members. Students from Glen Acres attend Fugett Middle School and East High School.
